A social media friend of mine recently forwarded the above link / story to me seeking my insights…
WOW! Wasn’t the whole thing heart-wrenching? The least being the picture of a loving mother kissing her dying son on the forehead. As I read Linda’s (the author) story – that of her son – Ryan, it brought tears to my eyes. In what she shared of their family’s journey and struggle… Ryan’s struggle with homosexuality, who reading that can honestly say they weren’tmoved?
One of the last complete thoughts / statements of her article that mother & author Linda shared with her Son Ryan, which I whole-heartedly agreed with was this: “You are going to have to choose to follow Jesus, no matter what. And since you know what the Bible says, and since you want to follow God, embracing your sexuality is not an option”.
What followed, is what unfortunately happens in far too many christian families these days. Instead of continuing to “love the sinner, hate the sin” family, friends often end-up compromising their own faith – beliefs to TRY to seemingly include a way for God to accept their loved one’s sinful homosexual lifestyle. Yes, God IS Love, God is the embodiment of TRUE Love… sending his Son Jesus to live the perfect life here on earth and die on the cross for all of us sinful human beings so that we might have the ability to enjoy eternal life in heaven with Him.
But, what is TRUE love? Is it to turn the other way and excuse what God clearly and consistently calls sin throughout scripture, just because your son/daughter/brother/sister/friend is the one embracing it?
I occasionally get accused (as being somewhat of a vocal ‘point person’ on this issue of homosexuality) as driving young people to suicide. … Read the rest
